Fundraising Programme for Migrant Artists Based in the United Kingdom
We are female Latin American artists with over 15 years of experience working in the UK. RecaudART was born through the desire to share our vast wealth of knowledge and experiences with upcoming artists facing similar challenges, such as language, migration, and cultural and socioeconomic differences. Our knowledge was hard-earned, so we identified the need for RecaudArt within the UK cultural sector.
We have extensive knowledge of the fundraising sector based on our experiences as artists, fundraisers and mentors.
We designed RecaudArt to enhance artists’ knowledge of their target market, develop their projects more precisely, and write their grant applications using productive frameworks and strategies. Fundraising is essential for all cultural projects; resources allow artists to develop and express their vision.
These concepts are not unique to a single market - every country has its cultural environment. Artists must understand their project’s desired impact, navigate the complex cultural climate to identify possible funders, and submit detailed proposals explaining their mission and how it fulfills the funder’s aims.
Programme
Modules
The RecaudArt programme consists of several digital modules targeting a specific area. They have multiple sessions to transfer knowledge regarding that area, not just from ourselves but also from leading experts in the field.
Within these sessions, we identify the applicable strategies and provide a framework to implement those strategies. We also offer several practical activities to allow the artists to practice these strategies, which we then review. We finish each module with a Q&A session, typically including a Guest Speaker who is an expert in that area.
RecaudArt develops the following techniques
Artists can identify and explain project concepts by breaking down complex cultural projects into key areas. They can evaluate impact metrics using quantitative, qualitative, and creative methods through the Theory of Change. This helps them estimate and prioritize costs based on desired changes.
Every location has a unique cultural market; RecaudArt analyses the UK’s cultural environment and provides strategies for identifying potential funders or collaborators. This analysis then feeds into the Project Analysis so that they can adapt their project to maximise any desired impact.
After identifying a funder, in RecaudArt, we show how to analyse their open-call or grant application—allowing artists to produce a list highlighting the funder’s short and long-term goals.
In RecaudArt, we work on how to adapt their project description to emphasise the funder’s aims within their own project.
By combining all the previous analyses, the artists can produce targeted grant applications with a higher likelihood of success.
RecaudArt first edition concentrated on Latin American Artists within the UK market; however, based on the programme’s core principles, we can adapt it to different countries, communitites, languages or artists. RecaudArt is hosted on a custom platform explicitly designed around our needs.
